Mario Moranelli


Mario MoranelliMr. Moranelli is a Senior ASI Associate with over twenty-five years of international experience in the engineering/construction industry. He is a former Treasurer and Finance Vice-president, of the SNC-Lavalin Group, one of the largest project management, engineering, and construction companies in the world with operations in more than 60 countries and an annual turnover of over US $ 2.7 billion. His experience includes strategic planning, treasury, assessing and mitigating financial risk, mergers and acquisitions, corporate alliances, contract negotiation, assessing the economic viability of projects and investments worldwide.

While with the SNC-Lavalin Group, Mr. Moranelli’s responsibilities covered a wide spectrum of areas, from finance and control both at a corporate and operational level, the treasury operations of the corporation, mergers and acquisitions, experience in Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) and concession type projects from the privatization of airports, postal services, railway, to commercial negotiations on various projects, to being a member of the corporation’s Risk Evaluation Committee for equity investments and lump sum turnkey projects. Listed below are some mandates and achievements in the area of BOT and concession type projects:

  • Privatization of the Lima Airport in Peru, 20-year concession, in partnership with British Airports Authority (BAA);
  • Privatization of the postal services in Buenos Aires, Argentina, $100 million US investment, in partnership with Canada Post;
  • Privatization of the railway infrastructure in Aqaba, Jordan, in partnership with CANAC, a 20-year concession;
  • Contract negotiations for a 15-year concession to privatize the postal services in Lebanon in partnership with Canada Post.

Another area of expertise built over time is his comprehension and understanding of Project Management. In addition, in the last three years as a guest lecturer and resource person for students enrolled in the International Aviation MBA program at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, Mr. Moranelli has contributed to the development of many young executives’ knowledge of the practical aspects of aviation industry.His experience and know-how is used in the area of strategic management and investments in BOT-type transactions. This includes inherent risks, mitigating risk strategies and methodology required to assess the economic viability of projects.
